What is Meditation?
Wikipedia describes Meditation as “a practice in which an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content, or as an end in itself.”
In today’s age, meditation is no longer associated with a specific group or religion. Many people are reaping the benefits of meditation. It allows us to relax our minds and helps to relieve daily stress, while grounding us and keeping us centered.
Aromatherapy and essential oils during meditation can definitely enhance the user’s experience of meditation.
Pure Essential oils such as Sandalwood and Patchouli are grounding. While Sage, Lavender and Roman Chamomile act as sedatives and can enhance the relaxed state of meditation, also reducing anxiety and depression.
Frankincense, Sandalwood and Myrrh are known to enhance enlightenment and a spiritual connection with the divine.
In addition, Bergamot Oil is often used in many yoga and meditation blends.
We have added a description of benefits of each oil included with our meditation recipes, that way you know exactly how each essential oil can benefit you, and will benefit you if used properly.
Frankincense Oil: Ground the breath and expands the upper chakras. This oil has many healing properties.
Sandalwood Oil: Known to be calming and uplifting oil. Sandalwood is safe to apply directly to the skin, and as such, is beneficial if you add a few drops to your third eye point and temples. This will promote relaxation and stillness in meditation.
Myrrh Oil: Open you up to receive spirituality during meditation. Again, calming oil that brings a deep serenity to the mind. Myrrh is also known to ease grief, bring peace and calm, and helps to heal emotional wounds.
Bergamot Oil: This oil is uplifting and relaxing, making it a good oil to help build confidence.
Patchouli Oil: extremely grounding oil that offers a balance on emotions. This oil is considered the oil of peace.
Cedarwood Oil: Helps the mind focus on meditation while helping to reduce anxiety and stress. This oil will help to create balance.
Lavender Oil: Known for spiritual healing, tranquility, release of energy blockages, stress relief, helps to promote calmness and purification.
Using essential oils through an electric diffuser to emit a mist of the oil is a great way to use aromatherapy during meditation, however some oils are safe to use topically and that will assist as well with the meditation.
Add an equal amount of oil drops into a dark glass bottle. Then add about 10 drops of this blend to your diffuser. Patchouli, Frankincense and Cedarwood
If you want to enjoy an enlightened mediation:
Try adding about 10 drops of Frankincense to your diffuser. You can also make a blend of Frankincense and Myrrh which is wonderful. Combine equal drops of each oil.
If you want a relaxing and stress relief meditation, try the following blend in your diffuser:
Combine the following oils in a dark glass bottle to combine, and then add about 10 drops to your diffuser: 6 drops Lavender, 4 drops Cedarwood, 2 drops Bergamot
